You may have seen a video on social media going viral about a food stand in Mexico City selling Dino Quesadillas. Dino Quesadillas mix two great things, dinosaurs and quesadillas, so it’s no surprise how popular they are with people.
Like anyone who sees something viral on social media, I wondered if it was worth it? Well being that I love dinosaurs, quesadillas, and Mexico City; it seemed the only logical course of action was for me to fly to Mexico City and find out. So thats what I did. I flew to Mexico City to try the viral Dino Quesadillas.

How to Get There
The viral Dino Quesadillas stand is located in the Roma Sur neighborhood of Mexico City near the border with Roma Norte and Doctores. Dino Quesadillas doesn’t have an exact address given that is is a food stall, but it is on the eastern edge of the Ramón López Velarde Garden. Look for a stall with a Jurassic Park style logo that says Dino Cuecas. If you type Dinoquesadillas into Google Maps it will show up and you can get directions to it if needed.
The best method of getting there depends on where you are staying. If you are staying in Roma Norte, Roma Sur, Doctores, or possibly even Condesa you can walk if you are feeling up to it. If you staying in a farther neighborhood such as Polanco, Centro, or Coyoacan then you will be too far to walk. From these neighborhoods you can take a bus, uber, or possibly the metro.
The Seating
While the Dino quesadillas is located in a park there was some tables and chairs they had set up by the park. The tables had sauces and napkins on them. While not made for true sit down service, it was nice to be able to site down and eat your Dinos.
The Food
Let’s be honest the Dino quesadillas are the main attraction here. The menu was had pictures of different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on it. It turns out you could get a quesadilla shaped like any of them!
Now let’s be honest the term quesadilla is used pretty loosely here. It’s not a fried tortilla folded over with cheese. However since dinosaurs are cool and I love the novelty of this we are giving a pass for artistic liberty. The Dinos are masa molded into the Dino you pick filled with a a stuffing of your choice.
I ordered four Dinos, two with cheese and two with cheese and chorizo, as well as the Jurassic Papas (cheese breaded in potato flakes and fried in the shape of a brontosaurus). Now online some folks have complained that it took a while for their food to come but ours came quickly, though we were the only folks there at the time. I also passed the time with a Dino cantarito, which originated in Jalisco and is home to many tequila distilleries.
When our food came I was so excited! I have loved dinosaurs since I was a child and seeing my edible Dinos made me feel like a kids again. The four Dinos and the Jurassic papas, which came as an order of three, was enough for me and my wife. In terms of taste they were good but nothing crazy, you can only be so inventive with cheese and dough. That being said it was fried masa filled with cheese so it was still pretty good. The Dino shapes made them even tastier.
The Price
When we went the price was $35 MXN per Dino quesadilla, which is roughly $2 USD. So the four Dino quesadillas we ordered were $140 MXN or ~$8 USD. The Jurassic Papas was $120 MXN and the cantarito was $90 MXN, for a total of $350 MXN / ~$20 USD. While definitely not as cheap as other quesadillas you can find in Mexico City, you are paying a premium for the novelty of them being Dino shaped. Overall, I felt it wasn’t bad for two people, especially considering I got a drink.
Are the Mexico City Dino Quesadillas Worth It?
Yes, the Dino quesadillas are worth it. Dinosaurs are cool and quesadillas taste great, so putting them together is a no brainer. Even if you aren’t a Dino fan like me, you will still appreciate the novelty of them. If you are looking for the cheapest street food in Mexico City, I would say this isn’t it, but it is by no means breaking the bank either.
While this probably won’t be an every day thing, it’s still worth it to head over and pick out a few different Dinos and share them with some friends after walking around Mexico City. Head on over, order a few Dinos and relax by the park and then head off to grab a drink at one of the great bars in Roma.
