Is Moxy Banff Worth It? – My Review of the Moxy Hotel in Banff National Park (2026)

Moxy Banff is located in the town of Banff inside of Banff National Park in Banff, Alberta. Banff National Park is a bucket list trip for many. The mountains of the Canadian Rockies and turquoise blue water of Lake Louise draw in thousand of visitors each year. It is truly a gorgeous place.

If you’re looking to make the trip to Banff National Park, one of the first things on your list is to find a place to stay. Picking the right hotel or rental can be tough; trying to balance price, location, and amenities.

For my recent trip to Banff National Park, my wife and I stayed at the Moxy Banff. Moxy is a newer brand in the Marriott portfolio and has been getting lots of attention. It trades smaller rooms for a larger and more social lobby area. My first experience was with Moxy San Diego back in 2025 and I enjoyed my stay. Spoiler: We enjoyed ours stay at Moxy Banff too!

Vibe and Atmosphere

If you have never stayed in a Moxy Hotel before you will find it different than traditional hotels you have been to before. It’s geared towards a younger, more social crowd that travels for leisure instead of business.

This is reflected in the design and function of the hotel. The lobby isn’t just a space with a few chairs and lukewarm coffee, but a social space meant to hang out in. The lobby at Moxy Banff felt like a big living room at a friend’s house. There were couches and a bubble hockey table, all centered around a large bar designed for socializing. There was also a distinctive retro vibe to the hotel.

While this design definitely caters to the younger crowd, Moxy Banff is still child and family friendly. I saw plenty of families there during my stay who looked like they were having a great time.

Check In

Like all Moxy Hotels, check in is at the bar. At first it might sound strange but it works good. When you check in at the bar you are given a free welcome drink to start your stay. At Moxy Banff the welcome drink is the Moxy Lowball; a vodka soda made with Saskatoon berry syrup and Banff essence. As Marriott Gold members we were also give a welcome gift of water bottles and two chips redeemable for any drink at the bar.

The Room

While a cool lobby is great it doesn’t mean anything if the rooms don’t deliver. Like all the rooms at Moxy Hotels, the rooms at Moxy Banff are small by design. The smaller rooms are part of the design to appeal to travelers that are interested in being more social and don’t plan on spending tons of time in the room.

We booked a queen room and were given a room on the 2nd floor. The room opened to a sink on the left and then led to the bathroom and bed. The bathroom was small but functional. It had a standing shower and was supplied with shampoo and shower gel. The highlight of the room was a ski lift seat hanging from the ceiling. The room also had a small balcony with a partially obscured view of the mountain behind the hotel.

The bed had an arm/headboard around two side of the bed and reminded me of a bed from camper. The bed was comfortable and was great for relaxing after a hike. There was also a tv on and a fridge, as well as Banff National Park themed decorations on the walls.

Even though the room was smaller it was still quite functional and was updated.

Location

Location is a huge factor when it comes to picking a hotel for your trip. Moxy Banff is located on Banff Ave, which is the main road in Banff making navigation very easy. Downtown Banff is a little less than a mile away and can be reached by on foot within 20 minutes.

Moxy Banff is mostly surrounded near houses and other hotels. There are a few restaurants in the immediate area but there are plenty of restaurants and breweries in the downtown Banff. There is also a bus stop near by if you don’t want to walk to downtown.

Amenities

Every hotel seems to have amenities these days and Moxy Banff is no different. There are also two pools outside behind the lobby that have a mountain view. In addition to the pools there is a sauna and fitness center on site as well. There is onsite laundry as well which its a big plus.

The lobby itself could be considered an amenity with the games and social areas. The bar in the lobby is set up in a long oval with a variety of cocktails and beers on tap. I thought the drinks were pretty good. I especially liked using the extra drink chips to try different drinks. 

average in my opinion. I had a rueben and my wife had the flatbread pizza one night. Even though it wasn’t anything to write home about it was still nice to know it was on site and we didn’t have to walk anywhere for food if we didn’t want to.

Moxy Banff is also pet friendly!

Service

The service we received at Moxy Banff was excellent. Check-in was great and the staff was friendly. Several times during our stay the staff helped us with information about the town or trails to explore. The welcoming staff definitely added to the social atmosphere of the hotel.

Parking

Moxy Banff does have onsite parking in 2 covered areas on either side of the hotel. When we stayed the rate for parking was $19 CAD per night. There was also free street parking behind the hotel.

Price

Even with all the amenities what it really comes down to is price for most travelers. Now I stayed in late July which is the height of the peak season for Banff, so rates are expected to be higher. That being said, when we were searching for a place to stay Moxy was considerably less expensive, more updated, and with better amenities than other hotels we saw. All in our four night stay was ~$2000 USD. Considering the location and the cost of nearby options I felt it was decently priced. The reality of town like Banff is that prices are almost always high since it is so popular with visitors.

Is Moxy Banff Worth it?

In a word, yes. Moxy Banff is worth a stay and is a good option for those looking to balance, amenities, location, and price. While not a budget hotel by any means, I felt it was a better value than nearby hotels. I do wish it was slightly closer to downtown Banff, but it is still very walkable to downtown Banff.

The staff at Moxy Banff made for a great stay from start to finish. The social aspect of the hotel definitely appealed to me and made the stay feel more lively. It was another great stay at a Moxy Hotel and will have me looking for one in my future travels. If you are planning a trip to Banff I would definitely take a look at Banff Moxy.
