American Express has announced the long awaited details about the refresh of it’s popular Platinum Card. Considered one of the most iconic premium credit cards, there was much speculation surrounding the refresh. American Express had been incredibly tight lipped leading up to the announcement, dropping teasers on their social media.
Personal Platinum Card Updates
The refresh of the Personal Platinum Card includes a variety of new and updated lifestyle credits. Among the new credits are a $400 Resy credit and $300 credit to Lululemon, each divided into quarterly amounts. Less splashy credits are $120 for UberOne and $200 to Oura Ring.
The Fine Hotels and Resorts credit was upgraded to $300 semi-annually for $600 total. The digital entertainment credit was increased to $25 monthly, while adding Paramount+, YouTube premium, and YouTube TV to the list of eligible partners.
Card Members can also receive complimentary Leaders Club Sterling Status from The Leading Hotels of the World® as part of the refresh. According to their website “The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. is a collection of the world’s most exclusive independent luxury hotels.” Sterling status comes with benefits such as prearrival room upgrades, special rates, and on-site benefits.
Despite rumors the Saks and Equinox credits could possibly be dropped, all existing credits remain.
Business Platinum Card Updates
The Business Platinum Card also got a refresh with new credits and upgraded 2x points on eligible key business categories. The new credits include $1150 for Dell, $250 for Adobe, and Statement Credits for Flights and American Express One AP®. The new FHR credit and Leaders Club Sterling status are also included. Rounding out the changes is an updated 35% points back when booking flights through Amex Travel with points.
New Annual Fee
These new credits come with a new annual fee as well. The annual fee will be increasing from $695 to $895, making it the most expensive of the premium credit card. Per American Express, existing Card Members will see the new annual fee take effect starting December 2, 2025 (Business Platinum) or January 2, 2026 (Consumer Platinum), depending on their renewal cycle.
My Take
Given all the new credits, the increase seems like a relatively easy pill to swallow in my opinion. That being said I’m sure there will be people who downgrade or cancel their card because of the increase. I think this is part of the plan, a way to restore the card’s historic exclusivity and address complaints about lounge overcrowding. Overall, I think this the Platinum Card refresh is a positive one and a step in the right direction.
